External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with his Singaporean counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan on Sunday, reaffirming Singapore’s central role in India’s ‘Act East Policy’ and deepening bilateral cooperation during his official visit.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Jaishankar wrote, “Singapore is at the heart of our Act East Policy. Always insightful to exchange views there. Great to meet FM @VivianBala this morning in Singapore.”
As part of his engagements, Jaishankar also met Teo Chee Hean, Chairman-designate of Temasek Holdings, where discussions focused on India’s ongoing transformation and emerging investment opportunities.
“A great pleasure to meet Chairman-designate of Temasek Holdings Teo Chee Hean today. Discussed the transformation underway in India and its investment opportunities,” Jaishankar posted.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the visit forms part of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries, aimed at bolstering strategic and economic ties.
Jaishankar’s Singapore visit is also part of a broader diplomatic itinerary. He is set to travel next to China, where he will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Tianjin, and hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines.
Earlier this month, MEA Secretary (East) P. Kumaran met Singapore’s Luke Goh, Permanent Secretary (Development) for Foreign Affairs, in New Delhi, to review bilateral cooperation and explore new areas for partnership.
The year 2025 marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore. To commemorate this milestone, President Droupadi Murmu and Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam unveiled a joint logo in New Delhi earlier this year. The design incorporates national symbols of both countries—the Lotus and Orchid, the colors of both flags, and the number “60” to signify the enduring friendship, trust, and shared values.
India and Singapore continue to collaborate closely across areas such as trade, investment, digital infrastructure, and regional security, reflecting a robust and future-oriented partnership.
